History of the Building: Brussels

APE Bruxelles
HISTORY OF THE EPA IN BRUSSELS

The European Parliamentary Association began its activities in Brussels on 22 March 1999 in the rooms of the 'Members' Bar' - European Parliamentary Association - located on the ground floor of the Altiero Spinelli building of the European Parliament. The 'Members' Bar' is exclusively reserved for Members of the EP and is open from 12 noon to 9 p.m. (snacks are offered).

HISTORY OF THE BUILDING

Although an initial project for the building dates back to before 1988 with the creation of the Société Espace Léopold (SEL), the present-day building was only constructed after a long design phase. Emphasis was placed on the town plan, technical aspects and the environment.
The building work started at the beginning of 1989 with the construction of the first wing, which includes a hemicycle (Paul Henri Spaak). The northern wing followed in 1992, in perfect symmetry with the first. The construction of the Altiero Spinelli building began in 1991 and was completed 6 years later.

This vast building complex with numerous meeting rooms, offices and various areas constitutes a modern-day living space adapted to the requirements of the European Parliament.
